Logo annotations

1. Crosshairs

For my first logo, I used the custom shape tool and selected the Registration Target 1 shape. I chose this particular shape because I used to play the game Time Crisis when I was younger, which featured crosshairs in their logo. I then realised that four of the shapes would be able to fit together perfectly as they appeared to have perfect spaces for the crosshair lines to overlap, and they did. Looking back however, I realise that the colours do compliment each other well. In hindsight, I should have only used red.

2. Paws/Eye

For this logo, I used the custom shape tool yet again and selected the animal pawprint shape. Interestingly I chose this particlar shape because I discovered that I could put two pawprints together to create an eye shape, as well as looking like an eye. In addition, this shape allowed me to colour in the paw and toe prints seperately - I coloured the pawprints yellow, and i coloured each toeprint in a parallel order of: green, blue, red and orange. Personally to me, this logo has an aboriginal vibe about it due to the bright colours. Although I used the same colours in my first logo aside from the orange, I feel that they compliment each other well due to the aboriginal vibe.

3. Evil Cloud

For this logo, I decided to create a sinister character to pose as a mascot for my company - in this case it was an evil looking cloud. I was inspired by one of the bosses in New Super Mario Bros, known as Lakithunder who rides a dark cloud. For the eyes I used the eclipse tool and coloured them black, in order for the single red pupil in the right eye to show up. I did originally have another red pupil in the left eye, but after I accidentally deleted it, I decided i liked the evil cloud's appearance better. For the eyebrows, I used the lightning bolt custom shape tool and coloured them a darker shade of grey in order to show up against the grey cloud base. I used another lightning bolt shape and placed it underneath the cloud, as I felt it was necessary for a supposedly evil cloud. Finally, I used  the line tool for the mouth. Overall, whilst I enjoyed creating this logo and felt it would be a suitable logo to use, It didn't quite compare to some of my later designs.

4. Light Bulb

For this logo, I used the Lightbulb custom shape in black, with a yellow starburst shape behind it. Also, I put small yellow lightning bolts in between each starburst area. My reason for designing this logo was to represent new ideas in the gaming industry. However i realised that this logo could easily be mistaken for an electrics company, so I decided against using it.

5. Fleur-De-Lis Shield

For this logo, I used the Fleur-De-Lis custom shape coloured in black, created my own shield stamp and coloured it bronze, and three circles with the eclipse tool coloured gold. I created this particular logo because it represented my love of medieval culture, both in video games and real life. I decided to use the fleur de lis because it is arguably one of the most recognisable symbols of the medievil period. Finally, I used the three gold eclipses because it added more depth to the logo. Whilst I do like its simple yet impressive design, I feel that I could have developed it even further.

6. Flying letter

For this logo, I used the envelope custom shape in black, and two grass custom shapes in red and yellow respectively. My idea behind this logo was to represent the ability to deliver games to consumers first class style, although similar to my fourth logo, the logo could be misread as a delivery company, therefore I decided against it.

7. Anti-Censorship

For this logo, I used the scissors custom shape tool coloured grey, I created a red anti symbol with the eclipse tool, rectangle tool and the brush tool in order to cover up a section of the scissors. The Logo shows the anti symbol being cut by the scissors. This represents anti censorship in video games, as I personally do not believe that video games should be censored - as it is important for video game developers to fully express themselves, even if it is regarded as shocking content. Whilst I did not end up choosing this logo for my final design, it did make me realise how often video games are being censored nowadays, and even influenced part of my final logo.

8. Ravens

For this logo, I created my own Raven stamp in black, and placed four smaller ravens around the larger one. This represents that my company works as a team, or in this case a "Congress of Ravens". I decided upon using ravens in particular because I used to watch the CBBC series The Raven a lot, and I've always felt that a game adaptation would be amazing to play. However, I felt that I could have done much more with this logo, as it looks too simple.

9. Swords

For this logo, I created my own sword stamps and placed three of them. In addition, I used the eclipse tool to add four small red circles in between the swords. Similarly to the shield logo, I was inspired heavily by medieval culture. In hindsight, I should have combined this logo and the shield with the swords behind the shield.

10. Leaves

For this logo, I created my own leaf stamps and placed four of them in different colours (green, blue, yellow, red). Sometimes when I see particular company logos, I wonder to myself how they have no relation to what the company does, yet seems to fit them regardless? That's when I decided to create an unrelated logo specifically to test this for myself. Unfortunately the logo makes me think of a retirement home of all things, therefore I decided not to pursue it further for my final logo.

11. Centurion Helmet and Polearms

For this logo, I created my own Centurion Helmet and Polearm stamps. What I did differently from my other logos with stamps was place the same stamp over and over whilst alternating between two colours - in this case I used dark red and black. I really like how the colour scheme turned out for the helmet. However, the spears I used look like toothpicks in contrast to the helmet. I used this technique in three more of my logos. The inspiration behind this logo is the film gladiator, which featured severl characters with this sort of attire.

12. Bloodied skull

For this logo, I created my own Skull stamp and used the alternating stamp technique with dark red and black colours. I chose a skull in particular because I felt it tied in nicely to my Anti Censorship theme, depicting blood and gore. In hindsight, I should have developed this logo further and given it a stronger link to video games specifically.

13. Tiger

For this logo, I created my own Tiger face stamp and used the alternating stamp technique with black and dark orange colours. In terms of aesthetics, this is by far my favourite of the four logos I created with the alternating stamp technique. This logo represents the ferocity of our video games, loosely tying into the anti censorship topic. This logo was in fact one of my top choices, but I decided against it once I made my final logo. If I were to improve it further, I would make a stronger connection between this logo and video games

14. High-Five blobs

For this logo, I used the blob custom shape tool twice colouring them red and blue respectively. I was inspired to make this logo when I played Fallout: New Vegas - when creating a new character, one of the sequences has the player take an inkblot test, where the final inkblot looks like two bears high-fiving. I used the blob shape because I realised straight away that the blob looks like its doing a high five, so I decided to create this basic yet funny logo. However, I would not be able to select this logo as my final one in its current state, as it is far too basic and would need a lot of work to make it viable.

15. Cherryception

For this logo, I used the Hedera custom shape tool twice, colouring the larger one black and the smaller one red. Personally, I think this custom shape looks more like a cherry than ivy, which in turn make me think of the apple logo. Therefore, I decided to create this simple logo with a smaller red "cherry" on the larger black one. This was another logo that didn't have any strong connections to gaming, yet I felt that it looked impressive none the less. However, it was just too basic for me to commit to it.

16. Pinned Star

For this logo, I used the star and thumb tack custom shape tool, colouring the star orange and the pins black. This was another logo that I created on a whim, without any true inspiration. Overall, I decided not to continue developing this as I couldn't see how I could add further to it.

17. Arrows

For this logo, I used 3 different arrow shapes via the custom shape tool, colouring the largest red, the medium one white and the smallest one blue. The arrows could be pointing towards the comapany's progress. However, there isn't any strong correlation between gaming and this logo, in addition to it looking scruffy.

18. Musical Notes

For this logo, I used the check mark and eighth note custom shape tools, setting the colour of the check mark light blue, and the two eighth notes green and purple. I simply just do not like this logo, as there is no relation to gaming whatsoever other than gaming music, but that's not obvious whatsoever.

19. Fireball

For this logo, I created my own fireball stamp using the alternating stamp technique I described earlier, using orange and black. I was inspired by other logos that use a fire theme, and I decided to make my fireball look more realistic. Whilst it sounded fantastic on paper, my fireball ended up looking more like a chicken drumstick. Therefore I decided to pass on this logo and continue trying to create the perfect logo for my company.

20. Royal Shield

For this logo, I used the eclipse tool exclusively, setting the colours to bronze, red and gold. Going back to the medieval theme,  I decided to make a shield-esque  logo with a royal theme using appropriate colours. For the gold circles, I made a rough pattern: 1 on each end, 4 in the middle and 3 inbetween the middle and end on both sides. In hindsight, I could have used a crown to further enforce the royal theme.

21. Speech Marks

For this logo, I used four speech marks and one grid via the custom shape tool. In foresight, I felt that using four speech marks could yield an interesting logo base design. Also, I used the grid as I felt it would go well together with the speech marks. However, the end result was underwhelming, not representing anything whatsoever, therefore I decided not to continue with it.

22. Alien face

For this logo, I used the banner custom shape tool and coloured it green. In addition, I used the eclipse, polygon and rounded rectangle tools, colouring them light blue, purple and red respectively. I was inspired by the Pizza Planet aliens from Toy Story who come from the claw machine. I feel that this logo represents our game company's uniqueness, bringing out quirky games. However, I could have developed this logo even further I feel.

23. Clover Box

For this logo, I used; the rounded rectangle tool twice colouring the larger one red and the smaller one yellow, the heart custom shape tool twice, both of them being green and the eclipse tool using yelllow. the two heart shapes gives the appearance of a clover, whilst the eclipse shape blends in with the yellow used behind the clover, in turn making look as if the clover has a hole in the middle. Eventually I decided to move on from this logo, as I couldn't think of a way to link it to gaming successfully.

24. Triangles

For this logo, I created my own triangle stamps and placed several layers, using green, blue, yellow, red and purple. I was inspired by the TriForce from the Legend of Zelda series and modeled this particular logo after it. Whilst it does refer to gaming, I fear this logo would be labeled as a Triforce ripoff. Therefore, I will be moving on and creating more logos. Also, I did not know that the polygon tool could be used to create triangles when designing this logo, which would have sped up the process a lot faster if i did use said tool.

25. Tiles

For this logo, I used several Tile layers from the custom shape tool, as well as nine red squares. For the tile layers, I used yellow, green and blue. The logo reminds me of the game Tic Tac Toe, or noughts and crosses. Other than that, I cannot see any other references or meanings. Therefore, I moved on from this logo.

26. Pentagon Snakes

For this logo, I used the polygon tool to create pentagons with the colours green and brown. I was inspired by the board game snakes and ladders, using the pentagon shapes to create the snakes. I chose to create a logo about it as a game aimed at a older audience based on snakes and ladders would potentially appeal to me. Overall, I decided not to go with this logo, as it isn't directly related to video gaming.

27. Controller

For this logo, I created my own PlayStation controller stamp with the colour black, as well as the eclipse tool, polygon tool, rectangle tool and brush tool. I used the eclipse tool for the action buttons on the right hand side (yellow, green, red and blue buttons) and for the analogue sticks (grey). I used the rectangle and polygon tools for the Directional Pad (yellow, green, red and blue). Finally, I used the brush tool in black for the controller cable. This logo was my second choice, but i decided against it after I created the final logo.

28. Heard Gaming (final)

For this logo, I used the Horizontal type tool, Eclipse tool, Polygon Tool and square tool. I split the text boxes into four sections: the letters HE, A, RD and "gaming". Both the HE and RD sections use the font Charlmagne Std and are coloured black. The A has been flipped upside down, warped using the warped text tool and coloured red. Finally, "gaming" was typed in the font Franklin Gothic Heavy and coloured black. I decided upon Charlmange Std because I love the aesthetic qualities of lines underneath certain sections of letters. Also, It was the perfect font to use with my upside down anarchy symbol. I used an anarchy symbol in order to represent the comapny's support of anti censorship in video games. To complete the anarchy symbol, I used the eclipse tool to create a ring  to go around the A. I chose Franklin Gothic Heavy for "gaming" because I have always been fascinated by the letter g being stylized in that particular way. The word "gaming" in particular has the letter g on both ends, making it the perfect opportunity to use this particular font. Finally, I decided to add a D pad on the letter D, producing a very strong bond between this logo and video games.
